We can't keep this book on our shelves! If you are looking for an engaging, easy to read book, The Help is a great novel. We recommend it for book groups, as it is a story that you want to talk about and share with your friends. Sometimes when you read a book, you feel like you have read that specific story line before. This is not so with The Help, it's very original and engulfs you into Mississippi in the 1960's.

Here's the synopsis of The Help (taken from Kathryn Stockett's website):

Three ordinary women are about to take one extraordinary step.

Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone.

Pound Cake

It's strawberry time! This is a great recipe to serve with strawberries and whipped cream! It's kind of a nice change from the usual angel food cake. Enjoy!

Delicious Pound Cake

Ingredients:
1/2 pound or 2 sticks butter
3 cups sugar
6 eggs room temperature
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sour cream

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Beat until fluffy. Then add the rest of ingredients. Pour into a greased and floured angel food cake pan (I used a bunt pan). Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes. Cool for five minutes. Remove from pan and dust with powdered sugar.

So it may not be quite spring and who knows what the groundhog is going to enlighten us with tomorrow, but at All Tucked In, spring is in full swing. Just by stopping in the store, you will feel the hope that spring is around the corner and the gray winter days will soon be a thing of the past. We are getting new things in every day and it's so hard to narrow down the items to spotlight on the blog. Just take our word for it, you need to come in so you can check out each detail in the store for yourself!

We love, love this jacket! The details of the buttons are white and black polk-a-dot ribbons and the crochet is amazing quality. Just picture this with a great skirt, your favorite jeans or long shorts when the weather is bearable!

Maybe the birds aren't out yet, but these pretty things are sure to bring spring into your home. Hang them from a chandelier or something wonderful. (Less than $10!)

You have to see these handmade boiled wool hearts! They are beautiful. We love the detailing of the beeds and simple colors of the wool.

This blue skirt is a killer and the belt at the waist is very flattering. Your sig other will want to take you to dinner and somewhere wonderful when you wear it.

My favorite bag for spring.

This is a wonderful book for any mother - young or old. It's sweet and endearing.

Don't be scared to wear yellow because this is dynamite on! The cinch at the waist is pretty and we love the detailing of the ruffles.

We love a great bundt cake and feel morally obligated to share this easy, no-fail recipe with you!

Benny's Bundt Cake

1 Devil's Food cake mix
1 small chocolate instant pudding
3/4 c. oil
3/4 c. water
4 eggs
1 c. sour cream
1 c. (1/2 bag) guittard chips

Mix ingredients together and bake at 350 for 50 minutes in a bundt pan. Let cake cool.

Frosting
1 c. granulated sugar
5 T. butter
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1/2 pkg. guittard chocolate chips

Bring all ingredients except chips to a boil for one minute. Remove from heat and add chips. Stir until smooth. Spread over cooled cake.

Book Rec for the Month

This time of year aren't we all looking for something bright and cheerful to take in? We love Kevin Henkes' book, Birds. The illustrations by Laura Dronzek are interesting and beautiful and Henkes' writing is always a joy to read. This is one of those children's books that is loved by the parent and child alike. We suggest this book as a great night time read or something to spark an activity with a child. After reading Birds, make a pine cone bird feeder to put in a tree. (Spread peanut butter around a pine cone, dip the pine cone in bird seed and hang with a wire in a tree near a house window. Then enjoy seeing the winter birds come for a treat in your yard!)

Crowd Pleaser

This is one of our favorite fall recipes that we have to share with you! It's one of those recipes that your neighbors and friends love you for! Enjoy!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread

3 cups pure pumpkin
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups canola oil
4 1/2 c. sugar
3 tsp. soda
2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 cups water
4 2/3 flour
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (I always add a little more!)

Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl. In separate bowl mix all wet ingredients. Then combine and mix both bowls together. Pour into greased pans (Pam spray with flour is great). Makes 9 mini loaves or 4 large loaves. Cook at 350 degrees. Mini pans for 40-50 minutes and large pans for 60-70 minutes.

My very favorite jewelry item that we ordered. It's a brushed gold, long chain necklace with light blue beading. It's also a locket and is so striking yet simple. This is a must have Christmas present.

Delicious Pumpkin Dessert

It's almost that time of year to start enjoying cooking again! It seems to hot to turn on the oven during the summer. We wanted to share one our favorite fall desserts that easy and delicious.

Pumpkin Dessert

Grease bottom of 9x13 pan and preheat oven to 350 degrees

This dessert has 3 layers:

Bottom layer: 1 pkg. yellow cake mix (1 c. separated)
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 egg

Filling: 1 lb. canned pumpkin
2 1/2 t. pumpkin pie spice
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2/3 c. evaporated milk

Crumb-like Topping: 1 c. cake mix
1/4 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1/4 c. softened butter

Press bottom layer into greased pan. Pour filling on top, followed by topping. Bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve when cooled (or even refrigerated) with whipped cream. Enjoy!

Delicious Summer Treat

Carmel Ice Cream Crunch

1 ½ c. flour

1 c. oatmeal

½ c. brown sugar

1 c. chopped nuts

1 c. melted butter

½ gallon ice cream

10 oz. bottle of caramel topping

Combine first four ingredients. Add melted butter. Mix well. Pat onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cool. Crumble ½ of mixture into a 9x13 pan and top with softened ice cream. Pour caramel over top and sprinkle the rest of the crumb mixture on top of that. Freeze until hard.

Charlie the Chicken, written by Nick Denchfield, is a great pop-up book for young children. They love it and it always gets the kids laughing at how big Charlie gets. The illustrations are bright and bold, the pop-ups are really fun and the punch line at the end is great! Read this book to your young children and they will thoroughly enjoy it.

Salad, 8-12 servings
2 bags spinach lettuce (you can add romaine lettuce)
1 1/2 c. strawberries, sliced
3/4 c. dried apricots
1 sliced bosc (or red) pear
3/4 c. cashews

Salad Dressing
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/2 t. salt
1/3 c. strawberry jam
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. cider vinegar
poppy seeds to taste

Blend above together

Alexa - Baby Blanket, $32: You always need a last minute baby gift and this cuddly blanket is affordable and chic. The polk-a-dot side is silky while the opposite side is soft and cuddly. The cute ruffle around the edge makes it so perfect!

Andrea - Hazel Trench Coat, $110: This picture does not give this trench coat justice, but at least you can get the idea of it. The magazine, Real Simple, listed "10 Must Haves" for every wardrobe. Of course, on the list was a great trench, and this jacket is perfect! It's a great neutral color with detailing that makes it funky and new. I love the large buttons and the collar which can be worn up or down. It makes a normal drab outfit to the grocery store look sensational!

Noelle - Tatertot Children's Ribbons: These sweet, little, felt barrettes are priceless. It is so hard to find the detail and uniqueness of these hair accessories. There are larger and smaller sizes for different ages. When my girls' wear them, people stop us on the street to find out where you can buy them.

The snow is melting a little and Easter is only a few weeks away. It's only one week after St. Patrick's Day! We received a huge shipment of wonderful Easter basket fillers that are sure to go fast. We have adorable pin wheels ($2.25), cute stuffed animals ($12.95-$21.95) and my personal favorite, the pet baby chick ($9.95-$13.95). I'm not sure I can wait until Easter to give my kids the little chick! We also have fun small sticker and activity books for under $5. If you want to fill your child's Easter basket with something a little unique, come by and see our great selection!

Also, here is a fun Easter tip. One year my husband surprised me with some very coveted cargo pants for Easter. He filled the pockets of the pants with Easter grass and candy. It was such a sweet surprise to see my own version of an Easter basket waiting for me on our bed. So, our tip is to surprise someone with something unexpected - a sweet necklace, a rare book or some great cargo pants! It's always fun to have a surprise!

We just returned from Magic in Las Vegas and we are so excited about the wonderful purchases we made! We know that you are going to love what is coming into the store! One of our favorite finds at Magic were these wonderful, Big Buddha purses. They are in great, fun designs that are noticeable and functional. Lucky magazine says this spring's trend is "crayola bright" colors in accessories and details. These great bags are the perfect touch for a fun spring outfit.
